Umai was first created in Spring 2013 by Chef Mai who has been active in the food industry for decades. Garnering success from the first location in the South Loop, the new Umai location is now open in Lincoln Park Chicago.

We offer a sophisticated twist on the traditional japanese izakaya style of casual eating, from sushi, yakitori to traditional ramen.

Our kitchen is a laboratory for innovation varying from integrating classic Japanese techniques with international flavors to create stunning, mouth-watering bites for eclectic crowds. From seasonal exotic fish to excellent sake and wine lists, Umai is a promising destination for all to enjoy and share.
